Genesis
THE PRICE OF A KINGDOM.
Long before the great empires learned to count their riches, a king entered a chamber beneath his palace.
There, surrounded by mountains of gold, sat a solitary figure.
Before him rested a scale.
Upon it lay a single coin.
The king surveyed the chamber with considerable satisfaction.
"My kingdom is the wealthiest in the world."
The figure offered no congratulations.
Instead, he gestured toward the coin.
"What is it worth?"
The king laughed.
"One coin? Nothing."
The figure turned it over.
Upon its surface appeared the image of a child standing beside an empty throne.
The king's smile faded.
"What sorcery is this?"
"An appraisal."
The figure raised the coin.
"Every road you built required labor. Every war you waged required sacrifice. Every treasure you gathered was purchased with something that could not be gathered again."
The king looked toward the mountains of gold.
For the first time, he saw not riches, but years.
Lives.
Promises.
The figure placed the coin upon the scale.
"You have counted everything you possess. Have you counted what it cost?"
The king departed without another word.
And beneath the palace, the figure continued his work.
For kingdoms would rise and fall, fortunes would gather and scatter, and mortals would forever mistake the price of a thing for its value.
But the scales would remain.
And the one who tended them would come to be known as Numaris.
The Appraiser.
Encounter
THE GILDED VAULT.
Beneath the Concordium lies a chamber overflowing with gold.
Coins cover its tables, fill its alcoves, and rest upon scales whose measurements extend far beyond ordinary wealth.
At its center, Numaris waits.
He does not ask how much you possess.
He asks what you have been spending.
Your time.
Your attention.
Your trust.
Your opportunities.
The promises you've made and the futures you've quietly exchanged.
Perhaps you've invested years in something you no longer believe in.
Perhaps you've been protecting a temporary comfort at the expense of a permanent ambition.
Perhaps you've mistaken sacrifice for evidence that the sacrifice was worthwhile.
Numaris will not condemn your choices.
He will reveal their terms.
And when he places the Coin of Two Fates before you, its surfaces reveal two paths:
The life your present choices are purchasing.
And the life you claim to desire.
His question is simple.
"Why are they not the same?"
Proclamation
EVERYTHING IS BEING WEIGHED.
Every choice is an exchange.
Every promise carries value.
Every ambition demands a price.
And every moment spent is a moment that cannot be purchased again.
You may refuse to count the cost.
But the cost will not disappear.
You may call something free.
But someone, somewhere, may still be paying.
You may cling to what you've already sacrificed, believing that surrender would render it meaningless.
But yesterday's expenditure cannot justify tomorrow's loss.
Understand this:
You are not choosing between cost and no cost.
You are choosing which cost becomes yours.
So weigh your ambitions.
Examine your sacrifices.
And spend your finite life upon something worthy of its price.
NOW COUNT THE COST.
Invitation
THE APPRAISER AWAITS.
Deep beneath the Concordium, the Gilded Vault remains open.
Upon a table of ancient stone rests a coin unlike any other.
Its surface shimmers with two possible futures.
One is the life you continue to purchase.
The other is the life you have yet to choose.
Numaris waits beside it.
He will not tell you which future deserves your devotion.
He will not promise that the wiser path will be painless.
He will simply reveal the terms.
And when you have seen what each choice requires, the decision will remain yours.
Every path charges a price.
Choose what is worth paying for.
YOU DON’T SUMMON NUMARIS TO COUNT YOUR FORTUNE.
YOU SUMMON HIM TO REVEAL WHAT YOUR CHOICES HAVE ALREADY COST.
